Off to St. John!!!

We are officially on vacation. One week of snorkeling, scuba,
beaching, hiking, and general timeoffidness for us!

I'm especially looking forward to some National Park exploration.

Promotion

Well, it has been a month now and I've finally been promoted!

I'm a little surprised that it happened this quickly.... and by "a little surprised," I mean "shocked beyond speech."

I'm moving from Magistrate Court to Recorders Court, so if you call that a promotion, that's what I got last week.

+1 to the list of people I know who have been CAR-JACKED

There was a time when I did not know anyone who had been robbed at
gunpoint, or car-jacked.

I recently had to start a list, and now I have to add to it. A friend
who lives about a mile away was standing outside his house at 4:00
this morning. He was talking to a girl in her car as she was leaving,
and a guy walked up to them. He thought that this guy was going to
ask for money or something, but he pulled out a small revolver and
demanded the car and her purse.

So, this is the third person I know in my neighborhood who have had
guns pulled on them.... city living!! The only difference between
the prior cases and this one, is that now I am working in the county
where this crime was committed. So, someone from my office will get
this guy as a client if he is caught. I guess these are the perils of
living (and working) in a neighborhood that's still "on its way up."

Into the Third Week

I wasn't here very long before someone got fired. It wasn't me.

It's exciting though. Keeps me on my toes. Not that I should be worried.... I hope.

I'm one of two licensed attorneys in the group I am in. Though it's really just me. The other attorney is in Recorder's Court and has to deal with speeding, ordinace violations, public urination... all the fun stuff. So, in the intake division there's me and five future attorneys waiting for bar results. I get to handle a lot of the preliminary hearings and all of the bond hearings for our division.

I'm still really enjoying this office. All the people have been great, very helpful, easy to get along with. I'm feeling rather lucky to have ended up here. I hope the honeymoon doesn't end.
